This project involves the removal and reconstruction of three railroad bridges and improvements to three road crossings. The project is to be completed in two phases to facilitate the installation of two tracks for the High Speed Rail. The scope of work includes bridge demolition and reconstruction, embankment excavation/grading, removal/installation of new track, road crossings improvements and installation of ornamental fencing. The bridge removal and reconstruction includes a 200 ft three-span structure over Forked Creek, a 52 ft single span structure over Water St. and a 600 ft eight-span structure over the Kankakee River. This project also includes the design and construction of a 14 span temporary bridge to be constructed each phase on either side of the existing bridge to allow bridge access while construction takes place.
