The CSX railroad asked ICC Group to mobilize as quickly as possible when they noticed a portion of the slope between their elevated track and Lake Michigan had a considerable and concerning amount of erosion. The time of year was November and December which could not have been worse, since that area of shoreline bears the brunt of the predominantly Northwest winds and the accompanying brutal and destructive waves. Nonetheless, ICC was able to find a few breaks in the weather in order to place 5,377 tons of boulder sized rip rap (amour stone) and 1,795 tons of plain rip rap to protect the toe of the slope from further damage before the lake froze.
